Supra is an oracle deck loosely based on Jungian psychology and the way it mingled with Gnosticism. It comes from UUSI, the Chicago studio run by Peter Dunham and Linnea Gits, the same pair behind the beloved Pagan Otherworlds Tarot. The deck grew out of their love for the way Jung wove together physics, psyche, and ancient knowledge, a soul-making practice that emerged at the dawn of the 20th century, just as the world was tipping into its obsession with the Machine. Supra is a return to the mystic roots that keep us human.
What an oracle deck is used for
An oracle deck, like tarot, is an object of meditation. It invites you to explore and uncover honest truths about your own character, and to connect with the older, creative current that runs underneath all of us. Where tarot follows a fixed structure, an oracle is looser and more artistic. You can read it on its own or alongside tarot to deepen the practice. Supra works as a gentle daily guide, a bridge between your present moment and the ancient, universal archetypes of our shared folkloric past. It is the Hero’s Journey, the one open to all of us, the transformation that only comes through truly understanding yourself.
Why this deck is special
The artwork is original, hand-inked by Peter Dunham, rendered in black ink against toned backgrounds. The cards measure 75mm x 130mm and are printed on heavy playing card stock with a linen finish, the kind that shuffles slow and smooth and lets the detail read in any light. The tuck box is premium stock with an embossed gold-foil design. The whole object feels considered, which is what you would expect from a studio that has designed for the likes of Herman Miller and Taschen. This deck is printed by The Expert Playing Card Company in New York.
